Just one day prior to the start of their fall semester, on August 24, William Jessup University held a community service day for all new students attending the fall semester. The event helped students demonstrate a principal value of the Rocklin based university: leadership and service in church and society. Over 250 students participated in the event at 14 different locations throughout Placer and Sacramento counties.
“This is a tradition that we have carried out for the past twelve years,” said Jennifer Ribb, Director of Student Life. “Our incoming students look forward to the day because it gives them a great opportunity to connect with one another and recognize their value to our surrounding communities.”
The university sent groups of 15-18 students to locations including the Placer Food Bank, Roseville Home Start, St. Vincent DePaul, Love Inc. and The Salvation Army.
Activities included basic maintenance such as window washing, landscaping, painting and cleaning. Others sorted food, household items and produce or completed administrative duties that volunteers are often too busy to perform. Some groups redecorated Sunday school classrooms while others spruced up a preschool providing new bark in play structures and freshly cleaned toys.
