William Jessup University and the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, the nation's largest Christian Hispanic organization, today announced a strategic partnership to support Latino youth pursuing higher education opportunities.
William Jessup University, the greater Sacramento region’s only private residential Christian liberal arts university, is now a recognized member of the Conference’s Alliance for Hispanic Christian Education.
The growing university has partnered with the NHCLC to join and facilitate a platform designed to significantly increase Hispanic college graduation rates.
“William Jessup University is determined to provide a quality, Christ-centered education for all students, from all backgrounds,” said University President, Dr. John Jackson. “This partnership represents the beginning of a season of intent to reach out to all of our brothers and sisters in Christ. We want the whole family present at the higher education table as it is vital for our region’s future economies, ministries and individuals.”
The NHCLC will offer a $5,000 scholarship for the duration of three years to any Hispanic student who is interested in attending William Jessup University and pursuing a higher education degree.
As an exclusive partner, WJU is the first university in California to join the growing initiative developed by the NHCLC.
“William Jessup University is uniquely positioned in northern California to deliver a culture of faith based on multi-ethnicity while engaging young people in a biblical worldview,” said Reverend Samuel Rodriguez, NHCLC President. “Two of my three children are currently enrolled at WJU where they are receiving a quality Christian Liberal Arts higher education and are plugged in to the vibrant sense of community the campus is known for.”
The announcement was made on the University’s Preview Day, a day that welcomes prospective students to visit Jessup’s campus to learn what a typical day is like. The event features hands-on opportunities ranging from campus tours, attending sample classes, chapel and a university fair with information on specific majors and programs of study. Students and parents will have the chance to interact during faculty, student and parent panels, as well as gather information about admission and financial aid.
For the third consecutive year, William Jessup University is also continuing their partnership with the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to provide a $5,000 scholarship per year for up to four years to a deserving student.
Founded in 1939 and located on 128 acres in Rocklin, William Jessup University is the only WASC-accredited private four-year residential university to have its main campus located in the greater Sacramento area.
In July, the University broke ground on a $17 million campus expansion to add new dining, athletic and classroom facilities to accommodate the growing number of students. The new, 54,000-square-feet facilities will be fully operational by the start of fall semester 2012.
