William Jessup University Forming Community Band
William Jessup University is pleased to announce the formation of the William Jessup University Community Band. The Band will be open to adult musicians who have a desire to lend their talent in combination with other musicians. Qualified high school musicians are also welcome to join with the permission of their Band Directors.
The Community Band is expected to serve two primary functions. First, it will provide a significant performing ensemble for the instrumental music students at WJU, and second, it is the desire of WJU to provide a place that local musicians can join together in performing some of the great band music of our era—marches, show tunes, classics, and more.
Conducted by WJU faculty member Van B. Crane, the Community Band will perform concerts each semester both at the University and throughout the community. Mr. Crane has conducted bands, orchestras and choirs in community, church and school settings for over thirty years. He was conductor of the North Bay Wind Ensemble, a community band located in the Napa Valley, for a number of years before moving to Placer county.
The Community Band will hold three reading sessions on Tuesday evenings, June 24, July 15 and August 5 at 7 pm on the WJU campus during the summer. The sessions are designed for musicians to determine if the Band is suitable for them. The band is expected to officially begin performances in the fall.
