William Jessup University on Wednesday began the school year with the largest enrollment in its 71-year history.
William Jessup University’s enrollment now stands at more than 700, including the largest incoming class ever with 244 students attending the Greater Sacramento region’s only private four-year, residential university.
“We are extremely excited about the continued exponential growth and that the momentum from our record breaking year last year has carried over to this fall,” said Vance Pascua, Director of Admission. “We are particularly pleased that the positive experience of our current students is the biggest factor in new students choosing William Jessup University.”
In light of the economy and the state budget cuts, the University has made a concerted effort to find creative ways to ensure affordability and accessibility for students to choose Jessup.”
Last November, the university announced it would freeze tuition. The announcement was preceded by a decision to decrease tuition by 2.5 percent, a benefit that new and returning student populations continue to embrace.
The three largest majors declared by the incoming student population are Business, Psychology and Teacher Education. The Christian Liberal Arts University offers 12 majors and 26 concentrations in addition to an accelerated degree program geared for working professionals.
Known as a Military Friendly School, Jessup also honors the latest provision to the GI Bill called the Yellow Ribbon Program. The program allows any veteran who has served on active duty for at least 36 aggregate months since 9/11 to have the complete cost of tuition covered in any program the University offers.
Approximately half of the incoming students are first time freshman and half are transfer students. Two incoming students report their native country of residence from as far as Russia and Taiwan while another moved from the UK to attend.
Of the new students, 71 are student athletes joining the ranks of the substantial sports program Jessup continues to build including volleyball, men and women’s soccer, men and women’s basketball, golf, cross country/track and softball.
To accommodate the new students, the University ordered new beds, dressers, desks and armoires to add to its award-winning housing facility.
