Veterans Day falls on a Sunday this year therefore, ceremonies at William Jessup University will take place the day after the commemorative day on Monday, November 12 beginning at 8 a.m. at the university’s Rocklin campus flagpole. The event will honor all veterans for their dedicated and loyal service to our country.
Hosted by the Public Policy Department, the ceremony will feature keynote speaker, General David O’Brien, mobilization assistant to the Director of the Defense Contract Management Agency in Fort Lee, VA. Not only is O’Brien an accomplished military and civil leader, he is also the father of three WJU alumni.
“We are honored to welcome General O’Brien to our annual ceremony,” said Sosamma Samuel Burnett, department chair and executive director of the university’s Public Policy Department and Institute. “It provides us with the opportunity to recognize veterans in our community and their remarkable service on our behalf and reflect on the freedoms they have helped protect for us.”
General O’Brien provides specialized technical and management advice to the director and senior staff in leading approximately 10,600 professional civilian and military employees located at more than 700 worldwide locations, managing 334,000 contracts valued at more than $223 billion and awarded to greater than 19,800 contractors.
Following the ceremony, the university will hold a breakfast for current students and alumni who are veterans or serving on active duty. William Jessup University honors the Yellow Ribbon Program, which offers any veteran who has served on active duty for at least 36 aggregate months since 9/11 to have the complete cost of tuition covered in any program the university offers. Currently, Jessup serves over 50 Yellow Ribbon students.
After the breakfast, tours of the university will be offered, showcasing the newest $17 million expansion project unveiled by Jessup last August featuring 54,000 square-feet of space that includes a full-feature dining facility with indoor and outdoor seating, an intercollegiate gymnasium, classrooms, and 11 music practice rooms.
