Interlibrary loan service allows WJU library patrons to borrow materials from other libraries around the country. Review the following policies and procedures, then submit the appropriate online request form.
REQUEST AN INTER-LIBRARY LOAN HERE
Who may use the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service?
Current WJU faculty, staff, and students in good standing with the library. Community patrons, students of other institutions, and WJU alumni should check with their primary library for interlibrary loan services.
Do I have to pay to use the service?
There is no charge on our end to use this service. Furthermore, we make every effort to find lending libraries that do not charge. In most cases, there are no fees passed on to the borrower. You will be notified before a request is finalized if there are any fees involved.
How long does it take?
Anywhere from one to five weeks, depending on location and availability. It is highly recommended that you request items at least two weeks prior to the date you need them, as all ILLs need time for processing by the lending libraries and for shipping.
How do I make a request?
First off, make sure the item is eligible. Then, complete the appropriate request form with as much information as possible. Use one form per requested item.
What can I request?
Books not in our print or eBook collections. New books may be requested but are often difficult to obtain.
Periodical/journal articles not in our print or electronic collections.
Other formats not in our collections - music scores, theses, dissertations*, CDs, videos, etc. These items are more difficult to obtain from other libraries, but we will make every attempt to fill an eligible request.
*Note: generally speaking, dissertations are not ILL-fulfillable; however, they are available for purchase at http://disexpress.umi.com/dxweb.
What can't I request?
Textbooks for a class.
Items available online or in print at WJU.
Items checked out to another library patron.
Entire periodical issues.
Items only available from overseas/international libraries.
Items unrelated to WJU studies, instruction, or business.
How will I know when my requested item(s) arrive?
You will be notified by e-mail that the item has been received. Once e-mailed, the item will be available at the circulation desk for you to pick up. A notice will accompany the item informing you of the due date. If materials cannot be obtained, you will be notified via e-mail.
Can I renew my ILL material?
Requests for renewals must be received at least four (4) days before the due date by phone or email. All renewals are subject to approval by the lending library. No ILL item can be renewed more than once.
What happens if an ILL item is overdue?
Every effort should be made to return ILL materials on time. Overdue items jeopardize WJU’s ability to borrow items from other libraries. Late items are charged an overdue fine of $1.00 per day per item, and library privileges may be suspended until the overdue item is returned. Lost or damaged fees are determined by the lending library and will be charged to the borrower.
