You’ve searched and searched to find the best school, now help get your education off to a great start with the right tools like a desktop or laptop computer. To help you with this decision, we’ve put together some technology guidelines and things to consider when purchasing a new computer system:
- Our network supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Mac OS X machines. Any name brand computer will be compatible with our network
- Based on our experience, we recommend the following configuration:
- Operating System: Microsoft Vista Home Premium
- Processor: Dual-core, 2.2 GHz or better
- RAM: 2 GBs or more
- Video Card: 128MB of RAM, 256MB highly recommended
- Network: 802.11g wireless network interface
- Optical Drive: DVD/CD-RW or better
- You should be able to purchase a desktop computer with these hardware specifications for under $1,000 and a laptop for just slightly more.
- The University IT helpdesk provides technical support for University equipment and services. Issues regarding personal computers are outside our responsibilities, but if our work load permits, we may provide limited technical support for personal computers.
- Microsoft Office 2007 is our standard software package. Enrolled students can purchase this and other software packages at significant discounts through JourneyEd. Just click on http://www.journeyed.com/SELECT and select “William Jessup University” from the list of schools.
- We recommend Trend Micro for antivirus and antispyware protection. This is available at http://us.trendmicro.com/us/home
- A USB Flash Drive (also known as a thumb-drive) for temporary file storage is also recommended. These drives are relatively inexpensive and are available from most computer hardware vendors.
