The federal government requires all colleges and universities to go through a review process known as verification. This process confirms all information submitted on the FAFSA for accuracy and completeness and confirms the student’s maximum financial aid eligibility.

If you are selected for verification, you will be asked to submit the following documents:

For Dependent Students*
  • 17-18 DEPENDENT Verification Worksheet (for enrollment in Fall 2017, Spring 2018, Summer 2018)
  • All student W-2 forms for the corresponding income tax return.
  • An IRS Tax Return Transcript for the student OR a Verification of Non-Filing Letter.**
  • All parent W-2 forms for the corresponding income tax return(s). If information is provided on the FAFSA for only one parent, W-2 forms are needed for that parent only.
  • An IRS Tax Return Transcript for the parent(s) OR a Verification of Non-Filing Letter.**
  • Any other forms requested by the Financial Aid Office.
For Independent Students*
  • 17-18 INDEPENDENT Verification Worksheet (for enrollment in Fall 2017, Spring 2018, Summer 2018)
  • All student W-2 forms for the corresponding income tax return.
  • An IRS Tax Transcript for the student OR a Verification of Non-Filing Letter.**
  • If married, all spouse W-2 forms for the corresponding income tax return and signed income tax return (if filed separately) for the year stated on the FAFSA.
  • Any other forms requested by the Financial Aid Office.

* Your dependent/independent status is determined by the FAFSA. Look on your Student Aid Report or contact your Financial Aid Counselor to see which one applies to you.

** If you did not file taxes, you must submit a Verification of Non-Filing Letter. This letter can be requested by completing form 4506-T. You may submit your 4506-T to WJU Financial Aid, who can fax your 4506-T to the IRS on your behalf. You can request a Tax Return Transcript from the IRS website at www.IRS.gov.

All signatures must be physical signatures. Please feel free to mail, fax, or scan and email these items to the Financial Aid Office. We do not need originals. In specific cases, additional information may be required. It is important to complete this process as soon as possible as your financial aid processing will be halted until the verification process is completed.
