Scholarships and Grants - Academic Year 2008-09

Here at William Jessup University, we have several awards available for our students. Please read the eligibility requirements carefully.*

Academic Scholarships for First-time Freshmen

WJU Scholar Award - $12,500

WJU Scholar Award Application

The WJU Scholar Award is offered to one first time, first-year student on the basis of academic achievement, a response to an essay question and a formal interview during a special on-campus event.

Applicants must meet the following minimum eligibility requirements to be considered for this award:

Academic GPA (weighted or unweighted) of 3.85 AND an ACT (Composite) of 29 OR SAT (Critical Reading and Math) of 1300.

Deadline: Postmarked by March 1st, submit the application with the essay response. The WJU Scholar Award applicant must also have completed the process of applying for admission by March 1st.

The scholarship is renewable annually if the recipient:

  • Maintains a WJU GPA of 3.50 or above.
  • Maintains full-time status.
  • Does not step out for more than one approved semester leave of absence.
  • Lives on campus for at least the first two years.
    • Subsequently, according to the Student Life residence living requirements as outlined in the catalog.
Presidential Scholar Award I - $8,000

This award will be granted to all entering first time freshmen in the traditional undergraduate program who meet the minimum eligibility requirements:

Academic GPA of 3.75 AND ACT (Composite) of 27 OR SAT (Critical Reading and Math) of 1200 with a Maintenance GPA of 3.0

Academic Dean Award I - $5,000

This award will be granted to all entering first time freshmen in the traditional undergraduate program who meet the minimum eligibility requirements:

Academic GPA of 3.50 AND ACT (Composite) of 24 OR SAT (Critical Reading and Math) of 1100 with a Maintenance GPA of 3.0

University Scholar Award I - $2,000

This award will be granted to all entering first time freshmen in the traditional undergraduate program who meet the minimum eligibility requirements:

Academic GPA of 3.25 AND ACT (Composite) of 21 OR SAT (Critical Reading and Math) of 1000 with a Maintenance GPA of 3.0

Academic Scholarships for Transfer Students

Presidential Scholar Award II - $6,000

This award will be granted to all entering transfers in the traditional undergraduate program who meet the minimum eligibility requirements below (with 24 or more academic transferable semester units):

Academic GPA of 3.70 with a Maintenance GPA of 3.00

Academic Dean Award II - $3,500

This award will be granted to all entering transfers in the traditional undergraduate program who meet the minimum eligibility requirements below (with 24 or more academic transferable semester units):

Academic GPA of 3.35 with a Maintenance GPA of 3.00

University Scholar Award II - $1,500

This award will be granted to all entering transfers in the traditional undergraduate program who meet the minimum eligibility requirements below (with 24 or more academic transferable semester units):

Academic GPA of 3.00 with a Maintenance GPA of 3.00

*Note: Transfers with less than 24 academic semester college units completed at the time of application, with a minimum college academic GPA of 3.0, will have their scholarship award determined by a combination of their high school (academic GPA and SAT/ACT) and college records, using the dollar amounts of the transfer awards.

Access Scholarship

Access Scholarship FAQs

WJU is pleased to announce a new scholarship program for incoming freshmen students; the WJU Access Scholarship. This scholarship is available to provide an opportunity for eligible students to attend WJU for the same cost as attending any University of California campus. If a student is admitted to any UC campus, WJU will match the cost of tuition, room and board at that campus. The University of California is not affiliated with and does not endorse or support the WJU Access Scholarship.

Athletic Scholarship

Traditional Program Students competing in men's or women's basketball, cross-country, soccer, or track, men's golf or women's volleyball may be eligible to receive an athletic scholarship. These awards are given at the discretion of the Athletic Director on a yearly basis, and the amounts of the awards vary.

Church Partnership Grant

Church Partnership Grant Application (2008-2009)

These grants are available to all students who are members of churches that financially support William Jessup University. The Church Partnership Grant Application form must be filled out by a pastor (at the supporting church) who knows the applicant well. These grants are limited to $1000 for the school year and must be applied for each year. Funds are limited. Early application is recommended.

Community College Grant

This $2,000 grant ($1,000/semester; tuition, only) is offered to incoming community college transfer students (last school of attendance), entering the Traditional Program, who have completed at least 24 transferable semester units at the time of acceptance. The grant is renewable as long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress as defined in the WJU catalog. The student must be enrolled full time at WJU in order to receive the full amount. No application is necessary.

Diversity Grant

Diversity Grant Application

These grants are competitive and based on financial need, academic achievement, and demonstrated leadership and vision through multiculturalism. To be eligible to apply, a student must meet the minimum eligibility requirements for an academic scholarship. Students must complete an essay response and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 1. If selected, the recipient must live on campus and be active with multicultural educational activities on campus. The amount of the grant is up to $4,000 (dispersed evenly per semester) and is renewable each year if the student maintains a WJU GPA of 3.0. Notifications by May 15.

Ministry Worker Grant

Ministry Worker Grant Application

WJU offers this grant to Traditional Program students who are involved in full-time, paid ministry, or who are the unmarried dependent of someone who is involved in full-time paid ministry. Examples of full-time, paid ministry include: employees of a church, missionary organization, Christian school, para-church or other non-profit organization that focuses on spreading the gospel of Christ. Students must complete an essay response, submit proof of full-time paid ministry status (i.e. a letter from employer or copy of pay stub) and must have submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This grant is $3,000 ($1,500/semester) and is renewable each year if the student provides proof of continued full-time employment in paid ministry and maintains a WJU GPA of 2.0. Applications must be submitted by May 1 for the following Fall term. Students who miss the Fall deadline will be allowed to apply for a Spring term award by December 1, if funds are available.

Music Grant

Traditional Program Students who excel in musical talent and ability may audition with the Music Department Chair for this grant. The amounts of the grants vary. These grants are renewable each year at the discretion of the Music Department.

Young Life Scholarships

This $1,000 scholarship ($500/semester) is offered to Traditional Program students who are recognized by Young Life Leadership for Christian character, commitment to Young life service and demonstrated leadership potential. Requirements: apply for admission to WJU postmarked by April 1; sign and submit YL certificate by June 1; maintain full-time status (12-18units) each semester of attendance; not step out for more than one pre-approved semester leave of absence; maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined in the WJU Catalog.

*NOTE: A student living on campus at WJU may not receive more than 100% of their tuition charges for any term from the WJU Institutional Aid Program. A commuter student at WJU may not receive more than 50% of their tuition charges for any term from the WJU Institutional Aid Program. The total of all WJU Institutional Aid Program awards combined with Cal Grant (excluding the subsistence portion of Cal Grant B) cannot exceed 100% of a student's tuition charges.
