Financial Aid Procedure

Students at William Jessup University may apply for financial aid each academic year. To help with this process, the following is a simple explanation of how to apply for financial aid for our traditional undergraduate program. If you have any questions you may contact Chrislin Wilder at (916) 577-2234 or cwilder [at] jessup [dot] edu.

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) electronically by going to www.fafsa.gov. Our school code is 001281. For more information click on the FAFSA link.
  2. An Electronic Student Aid Report (e-SAR) will be sent to you within two to four weeks. The e-SAR is a report that recaps your FAFSA information and provides you with the results of your federal financial aid eligibility.  When you receive your e-SAR, check for any corrections that might need to be made. For more information click on the FAFSA link.
  3. Complete all admissions requirements. Your admissions file must be complete and you must be officially accepted to WJU before you will receive further financial aid notifications.
  4. You may receive a letter from the Financial Aid Office requesting additional documents for a process known as verification. Some students will be selected by the Department of Education to have their FAFSA information double checked for accuracy by the Financial Aid Office to confirm maximum financial aid eligibility. For more information click on the Verification link.
  5. Once you have been accepted and have completed the verification process (if you were selected), you can expect to receive a Financial Aid Offer letter within 2-3 weeks. Please review the aid for which you are eligible, follow the instructions as to how to request your eligible financial aid, sign the letter, and return it to the Financial Aid Office in order for us to process your requested aid.
  6. Afer 2-3 weeks, from the time we received the signed Offer letter back, you will receive a breakdown of your estimated charges compared to your estimated financial aid. If you have registered already, we will print out your pre-billing statement showing your list of classes as well as your list of charges and financial aid for that semester, giving you the overall balance on your account. If you have not registered we will put together an estimated cost worksheet for you, breaking down cost as a full time student.
  7. If you desire to borrow student loans for the first time (or you are a continuing borrower but are switching to a different lender), you should expect to receive communication from the Financial Aid Department listing instructions on how to finalize your student loans. For more information, please click on the Student Loan link.
  8. If the Offer letter is returned and additional financial aid is still needed, there are additional loan options available. For more information, click on the Additional Loan Options link.
  9. If you would like to make a payment out of pocket, you will receive instructions from the business office on how and when to complete this process.
