Federal and State Aid

Federal and state grants are forms of need-based financial aid that does not need to be repaid. Need-based financial aid is distributed based on financial need as determined by the FAFSA. Below is a list of the federal and state grants available at William Jessup University.

Federal Grants

Pell Grant
Amount: Up to $5,645 per year
Eligibility: Eligibility for this grant is based on financial need as determined by the FAFSA.
Deadline: No deadline.
Renewal: Annually renewable. The amount of this grant is subject to change each year based on changes to your family's financial situation as determined by the FAFSA.
Application: FAFSA (online) with WJU listed.
Note: Annual amount prorated based on enrollment status.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunities Grant (FSEOG)
Amount: Up to $100 per year
Eligibility: Eligibility for this grant is based on financial need as determined by the FAFSA.
Deadline: Based on availability of funds. Priority given to early applicants.
Renewal: Annually renewable. The amount of this grant is subject to change each year based on changes to your family's financial situation as determined by the FAFSA.
Application: FAFSA (online) with WJU listed.
Note: Annual amount prorated based on enrollment status.

State Grants

Cal Grant A
Amount: $9,084 per year
Eligibility: Eligibility for this grant is based on California residency, an eligible GPA of 3.0 or higher and financial need as determined by the FAFSA.
Deadline: Students must submit the FAFSA and GPA Verification Form by March 2 in order to be considered for Cal Grant for the following school year.
Renewal: Annually renewable up to four years.
Application: FAFSA (online) with WJU listed and GPA Verification Form.
Note: This grant can be used for tuition only. For more information, visit www.calgrants.org.
Cal Grant B
Amount: First year: $1,473
Remaining three years: $10,696 per year
Eligibility: Eligibility for this grant is based on California residency, an eligible GPA and financial need as determined by the FAFSA.
Deadline: Students must submit the FAFSA and GPA Verification Form by March 2 in order to be considered for Cal Grant for the following school year.
Renewal: Annually renewable up to four years.
Application: FAFSA (online) with WJU listed and GPA Verification Form.
Note: First-year stipend of $1,473 can be used for living expenses and books. For remaining three years, $9,223 will be applied to tuition and $1,473 can be used for living expenses and books. For more information, visit www.calgrants.org.

Specialized Programs

Chafee Grant
Amount: Up to $5,000 per year
Eligibility: Students must be a current or former foster youth under the age of 22 (as of July 1) and have financial need as determined by the FAFSA. For full explanation of eligibility, click here.
Deadline: Students must submit the FAFSA and Chafee Grant Application by March 2.
Renewal: Annually renewable.
Application: FAFSA (online) with WJU listed and Chafee Grant Application (online).
Note: Chafee Grant can be used for child care, transportation and living expenses while in school.
Federal Work Study
Amount: Varies
Eligibility: This program is for the financially eligible students interested in employment (as determined by FAFSA). Students will have the opportunity to work on or off campus and receive wages for those hours. Jobs vary and wage is determined by the department student is employed with.
Deadline: No deadline.
Renewal: Not applicable.
