Micah Howser

Micah Howser

Head Soccer Coach

Although he grew in football-crazed Texas where his high school team regularly attracted 10,000 rabid fans for Friday night games, Micah Howser found his love of sports on the soccer field.

Soccer turned out to be a wise choice for Howser, who starred in high school, competitive youth programs, college, and now plays semi-professionally for the Sacramento Knights.

Howser’s latest soccer endeavor will involve a more cerebral approach, where he relies on his knowledge of the game and not his talented feet. The Folsom resident has been named the new men’s soccer coach at William Jessup University.

Howser replaces Trenton Mol, who guided the program the past eight years at the Christian university that moved from San Jose to its current Rocklin location in 2003.

“I grew up in Texas where everyone plays football, but I chose to play soccer and have never regretted it,” said Howser, “I love the game and feel extremely fortunate that William Jessup is giving me the opportunity to run its program. This is a dream come true to be coaching at the college level.”

A team captain at a young age with the Town and Country Warriors competitive soccer team in Austin, Tex., Howser will draw on his vast experience as a player in running the William Jessup program. He played 10 seasons for the T&C Warriors and departed McNeil High School in Austin as the school’s all-time leader in goals and assists.

After high school graduation, Howser’s next stop was the University of Illinois-Chicago, where he was a scholarship player for the Division I program. He played two seasons for the nationally-ranked team before transferring to The Master’s College in Southern California.

At The Master’s College for two seasons, Howser had a combined 15 goals and nine assists for the Mustangs, who made the national tournament both years, including a second-place finish in 2004.

Howser, 25, is the assistant coach for the 92 boys District 6 ODP team, has previously coached youth soccer, ran training programs at various levels, and has done personal training for high school and college athletes. He will also draw on his experience at Jim Rickard’s highly successful soccer program at The Master’s College.

“Jim is someone I really respect in all aspects of his life. He was a great coach on and off the field and that is the type of impact I want to have at William Jessup,” Howser said. “I want to develop our players into young, successful Christian men. William Jessup has tons and tons of potential.”

“We’re very excited about Micah taking over the program,” said Farnum Smith, the William Jessup Athletic Director. “I think his background at The Master’s College makes him a great fit for William Jessup. He understands the role of athletics at our university and brings tremendous knowledge and enthusiasm. Our players can’t wait to get started.”

Howser and his wife Nikki co-own Howser Appraisal, a real estate appraisal office in Folsom, where the couple resides.
