Warriors Go Out With Class

Rocklin, CA - William Jessup University defeated Cal Maritime 4-0 at home on “Senior Day”. Although the Warriors did not qualify for the regional playoffs, the win clinched 3rd place for William Jessup in the California Pacific Conference for the 2007 season.

The Warriors honored seniors; Kyle Navarro, Kyle Smith, Andrew Koekemoer, Will Squires, Josiah Gelsinger, Dane Johnson, and Andrew Hong, all who played their final game in a Jessup jersey. All seniors fought strong and hard as William Jessup fired 28 shots with 13 on goal for a very offensive finish to the year. Keelhaulers goalkeeper Billy Dick put up a good challenge recording nine saves, but it wasn't enough to save his team from defeat.

Senior Kyle Navarro earned a great memory to end his career with, finding side netting in the 20th minute with a nice right footed strike. Navarro would end the season with 8 goals, finishing as the team high goal scorer. It would take fifteen minutes before William Jessup would score on the Keelhaulers again. Sophomore forward Curtis Griffin launched a left footed rocket into the back of the goal for his 6th of the season with only a few minutes remaining in the half. The Warriors would go into the break with a two goal lead.

The Keelhaulers defense would fight courageously deep into the second half but they couldn’t fight off the constant offensive attacks. Scoring two beautiful goals in the final ten minutes, senior forward Andrew Koekemoer kicked his game into high gear. He would put in his 6th goal of the season, hooking up with senior Dane Johnson in the 80th minute. Then he hit goal number 7 with an assist from Navarro in the 84th minute.

As the final minutes counted down it appeared as if the Warriors would strike again. But the final whistle would blow all to quickly; WJU 4, CSU Maritime 0.
