Angwin, Calif. - The William Jessup University Warriors went into Angwin Thursday night trying to get a road win in one of the harshest environments in the California Pacific Conference. The Warriors had won all of their previous matchups versus Pacific Union College, but Pacific Union won their first conference game in 47 months earlier this year at home.

In the first half, the Warriors and the Pioneers traded baskets with no team really gaining an upper hand on the other. The Warriors and the Pioneers would both make nine field goals in the first half, but the Warriors had a 28-25 advantage at halftime due to one more three-pointer made and two more free throws made.

In the second half, the Warriors pulled away using 50% field goal shooting and making 6 of 7 free throws while holding the Pioneers to only 35.7% field goal shooting. The Warriors used a 17-2 run halfway through the half to cruise to a 68-52 victory.

For William Jessup, Rachelle Russell led the Warriors with a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Lara Canders led the Pioneers with a game high 26 points. Nicole Aboumrad and Cassie Davidson had 11 points for the Warriors in the win.

The Warriors shot 38.5% from the field, 16% from the three point line and 73% from the free throw line. Pacific Union shot 39.6% from the field, 50% from the three point line and 68.8% from the foul line. William Jessup's defense forced 39 Pioneers turnovers scoring 28 points while the Pioneers defense forced 30 turnovers by the Warriors scoring 17 points. The Warriors' bench outscored the Pioneers' bench 22-3 and outrebounded Pacific Union 37-32.

The next game for William Jessup is Saturday against Simpson University at the Warrior Dome. Game time is set for 5:30 pm.
