Lady Warriors Doomed By Turnovers, Fouls and Cold Shooting

Oakland, CA - The William Jessup University women's basketball team traveled to Oakland for a key match-up against the second place Holy Names Hawks. The first 15 minutes of the game were slow and tight, but Holy Names slowly crawled away from the cold shooting Lady Warriors to win 75-52.
The Hawks would open up the on a 6-0 run, but the Warriors would fight and quickly get back into the game in a foul plagued first half. The first tie of the game came with 9:03 left in the first half. It remained tight until the Hawks closed out the half on a 24-9 run and go into halftime with a 15 point lead.
The Hawks increased their lead in the second half as the Lady Warriors struggled to hit shots and take care of the ball. The Warriors would get as close as 9 points with 10 minutes left in the game before the Hawks defense tightened up. Holy Names finished the game on a 24-10 run to beat Jessup by 23 points.
Freshman Nicole Aboumrad, sophomores Lindsey Cesena and Cassie Davidson all finished with 10 points each for the Warriors. William Jessup was held to 22% shooting from the field and 21 % from the arch. They also gave up the ball 36 times on the night.
Lesley Vodiscka led the way for the Hawks with a double-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assist and 5 steals. Junior guard Jamie-Leigh Ronolo would add 18 points. While junior guard Marie Vodiscka chipped in with 16 and 5 rebounds.
With the win the Hawks go to 14-10 overall and 5-1 in conference, while Jessup falls to 7-15 overall and 3-3 in conference.
The Lady Warriors return to action in round two of conference play, against Pacific Union College. Jessup defeated the Pioneers at the start of the month 75-49 at home. The game will be played in Angwin, California on the campus of Pacific Union College on Thursday, February 4 at 5:30pm.
