Warriors Escape With Road Win

Angwin, Calif. - The Warriors headed up to Pacific Union College for the start of the second round of conference action. On a night were the Warriors could not catch a break or get any momentum, they would find a way to pull out a 64-60 overtime victory.
In the first half, the Warriors would slowly build a 20-13 lead with six minutes left in the half. However, the Pioneers would answer with a 12-2 run to take their first lead of the game. The Pioneers would use their home court advantage to gain a 27-26 lead at the halftime intermission.
The second half would go the same way with both teams trading baskets until the final minutes. The Warriors lead 52-50 and had two chances to expand their lead. However, the Warriors failed to execute on two offensive possessions. The Pioneers tied the game up on a jumper from Will Bell. The Pioneers had one last chance to win the game, but Kameron Barnes missed a contested elbow jumper to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, the Warriors tightened up the defense as they forced two consecutive turnovers to build a four point lead with 1:30 left. The Pioneers would respond, but the Warriors hit clutch free throws in the final minute of overtime to secure the win.
For William Jessup, Kadeem Kirsten led the Warriors in scoring with 15 points. Kameron Barnes led the Pioneers with a game high 24 points. Lucas Domingue had 10 points for the Warriors in the win. Brandon Monty had 13 points for the Pioneers.
The Warriors shot 36.4% from the field, 25% from the three point line and was 70% from the free throw line. Pacific Union shot 46.3% from the field, 20% from the three point line and 47.1% from the foul line. William Jessup's defense forced 23 Pioneers turnovers scoring 11 points while the Pioneers defense forced 19 turnovers by the Warriors scoring 12 points. The Warriors' bench outscored the Pioneers bench 19-12 and outscored the Pioneers in second chance points 13-4.
"Our guys hung tough tonight," said head coach Aaron Muhic. "We found a way to get it done. The game was very stagnant, with no rhythm for both teams. It felt like being in the twilight zone. We got the stops down the stretch we needed."
The next game for William Jessup is Saturday against Simpson University at the Warrior Dome. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
