Character in Education

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)

William Jessup University Liberal Studies graduates are prepared with knowledge for the head, skills for the hands, and character for the heart. Today young people are faced with growing moral decisions that require them to develop character at a young age.  It is essential that we prepare our candidates with the knowledge, skills, and character to determine appropriate thoughts, feelings, and actions.  As a result, tools for the head, hands, and heart are essential to a Christian Liberal Arts education.

Character in education begins with character in the classroom. This world is in dire need of proficient teachers who exhibit the character of Christ. That's why our candidates become familiar with writing, speaking and teaching not merely to state standards, but to higher standards. Everything a teacher does filters through that teacher's character, and at WJU we structure our entire program around the character traits listed in Galatians 5:22-23. From curriculum development and lesson planning to classroom management, our aim is to bring the character of Christ into the classroom.
